At The Sea

You come here listening
for you don’t know what,
as if you lost something,
as if here you’ll see the answer
riding in on the waves,
or lying in the sand
like a dropped shoe,
forgotten hat
or your son’s abandoned socks.
What is it you have lost?
What is it you don’t know?
What is it you hope
the sea will give back?
